Working from home benefits and gotchas I have learned after a year

Working from home benefits and gotchas I have learned after a year

I am privileged enough to have a fantastic job, and I don’t mind gloating.  Here are a few benefits and gotchas I have learned about working from home.

Benefits
——–
-  I can work an extra two hours a day, rather than sitting in traffic
-  I can close the door to my home office and concentrate on work
-  No distractions that come with cube-land
-  Approximately $50 per week savings in gas costs
-  Significant savings with respect to daycare expenses
-  The view from my home office window, beats the walls of any cubicle hands down
-  Eating at home saves a little and can be healthier if done right

Gotchas
——-
-  A reliable VPN is a must
-  A fast and reliable internet connection
-  Unlimited long-distance phone line
-  Backup plan for when the electricity goes out
-  Explaining to the kids how daddy is at home and at work at the same time
-  Explaining to the wife how hubby is at home and at work at the same time
-  Knowing when to put away work and concentrate on the loved ones

Would you like to know what I do for a living….come back tomorrow and I’ll fill ya in
(HINT:  It’s not an internet-based get rich quick scheme and I’m not selling anything).
